Google with its just-introduced Jules Extension for Gemini CLI seeks to boost creative coding workflows for developers by partnering the CLI with the Jules asynchronous coding agent.

Introduced October 29, the Jules extension for Gemini CLI allows developers to delegate tasks to Jules from the Gemini CLI. Jules works independently in the background to perform coding tasks like bug fixing, refactoring, and dependency updates, Google said.

The Gemini CLI is an open-source AI agent that provides access to the Gemini AI coding assistant directly from the developer’s terminal. Specifically, Gemini CLI serves as a developer’s collaborator and orchestrator in the terminal for tasks being focused on, while Jules is an autonomous sidekick that works in the background in a virtual machine, where it clones code, installs dependencies, and modifies files, Google said.
